Whatcom County and Bellingham Interurban Trail

Whatcom County and Bellingham Interurban Trail Professional Review and Guide

"The Interurban Electric Trolley motored passengers between Mount Vernon and Bellingham Bay from 1889 to 1903. The trolley route takes you high above Chuckanut Drive and Bellingham Bay, on a path amid evergreens, deciduous trees, and the occasional home.

Though Chuckanut Drive is a hilly, curvy street, the trail is quite flat except for one section. Surface: Crushed stone; one difficult section has dirt and mud. Location: Larrabee State Park to Fairhaven, Whatcom County."

Easy trail to access from just before entrance to Larrabee St. Park on the South end of the trail; trail is relatively flat and wide with a few narrow spots for the first 4 miles going South to North; the one exception is a steep dip in the trail that requires some quick shifting and pedaling when you go up the other side; I took my 10 year daughter w/ me and she had no problems using her mountain bike; shortly after the 4 mile mark the trail gets considerably more difficult for a brief stretch, with lots of ruts, roots, rocks and sharp turns; some of the views from the trail are breathtaking enough to make you stop and stare.
