Lake Padden Park: Lake Padden Loop & Lake Padden Singletrack Professional Review and Guide
"Located on the outskirts of Bellingham, Lake Padden Park offers trails for all skill levels. The Lake Padden Loop, a short ramble around the lake, is perfect for families and inexperienced riders. The Singletrack Loop—which hosts the annual although somewhat irregular Padden Mountain Pedal—while short, challenges even expert off-road cyclists. The Lake Loop is just under 3 miles of flat, completely non-technical gravel-covered trails.
Still, the park is a fantastic area to spend the day with the family, riding, fishing, swimming, picnicking, and tossing a Frisbee around. Although the trail is completely tame, the route is beautiful and relaxing as it lazily winds around the lake. Lined with alder, vine maple, cedar, and Douglas fir, the trail is rather wide— perfect for riding two, three, or even four across, chatting while riding and even pulling a child carriage. Located on the south end of the park, the Singletrack Loop is short but does contain a couple of steep climbs, a wicked descent full of switchbacks, and technical terrain. Advanced to expert cyclists will want to take the outside loop in order to ride the ascents and downhill sections. Trail surface: Wide gravel path and hard-pack singletrack."
