Howell Lake Lollipop Professional Review and Guide
"Two things a local rider warned me about the Tahuya State Forest: you'll get muddy, and you'll get lost. However, the Howell Lake Lollipop is fairly well marked and easy to follow. This 12.8-mile combination route follows the Howell Lake Trail for almost its entirety and, of course, allows for exploration on some of the many unmapped trails in the forest.
The Howell Lake Trail is designated as a "trunk" trail, that is, a main trail off of which other, minor (and fun) trails branch. The trail is marked intermittently by blue diamonds. They're good general markers, but no match for a map and compass. Great year-round riding for the intermediate (entire route) or tough beginner (loop only). Scenery: Howell Lake, Olympic Mountains views, fern-lined woods, clear-cuts."
