Monte Cristo

Monte Cristo Professional Review and Guide

"Monte Cristo is an old mining town near the headwaters of the South Fork of the Sauk River. This easy out-and-back ride is nine miles long. It covers gentle terrain with a couple of short, moderately difficult hills. The trip follows a compacted dirt-and-gravel road in good condition. This area was the site of the Cascades' greatest gold rush.

Millions of dollars worth of gold and silver ore were produced here in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. A free map and walking tour brochure is available as you enter the town site. The pamphlet describes some of the town's history and provides insights into the lives of the miners. There are walking paths to old structures and relics of the "boom." An excellent ride for strong families. Scenery: 7,000' peaks surround the historic mining town of Monte Cristo."
