Chamna Natural Preserve

Chamna Natural Preserve Professional Review and Guide

"One of several preserves and parks spearheaded by the Tapteal Greenway Association, Chamna is an important link in an emerging 30-mile greenbelt along the Yakima River from Bateman Island, at the confluence of the river with the Columbia, to the Kiona Bend in Benton City. Tapteal is the original name of the Yakima River."

"The Chamna Natural Preserve is a new parkland near the confluence of the Yakima and Columbia Rivers and offers hiking through a multitude of habitats ranging from grasslands to riparian wooded areas.

It is tucked away on the north side of about 2 miles of the Yakima River at the Yakima Delta, with the river on one side and freeways on the other. Still, the wildlife will tell you it’s all okay and they love it here—they appreciate the work being done to preserve the area!"
