Snow Lake

Snow Lake Professional Review and Guide

"Perfect for children, this short day hike passes one lake and ends at a lake in a glacial cirque.

Trees and brush obscure the Snow Lake Trailhead. When ready to hike, walk to the eastern corner of the parking lot to find the trail, heading south. The trail immediately begins to ascend rather steeply, but do not worry, it eventually levels off and descends, then crosses several ridges throughout the hike."

This is a very quick, nearly level round trip hike, following a small glacier-carved valley into which a stream descending Mount Rainier has cut a 100 foot slot canyon. Very interesting multi-layered scooped out bed rock going up the east part of the loop. You can view the slot canyon from the park road bridge, but the hike takes very little time and is worth the minimal effort.
