Mount Beljica

Mount Beljica Professional Review and Guide

"Too many people think you have to be in the park to enjoy Mount Rainier. That’s good for dog hikers, as it leaves trails around the border of Mount Rainier National Park less crowded and open to canine trekkers, which aren’t allowed on the national park trails.

This quaint trail provides virtually all of the benefits of hiking in Mount Rainier National Park, without the restrictions imposed by the Park Service. It ambles easily through forest and meadow, passing pretty woodland lakes, and climbing to the high vantage point once used by professional fire-watchers."

This is a good trail for a day hike or an overnight backpacking trip as we did. There are some lovely spots by Dumbbell Lake but you have to find them they are not on the main trail. You pretty much have to look for side trails to head off and explore the lakeside to find your spot but it is worth it. The trail is well maintained except for two bridges being out. One close to Dumbbell Lake was over a dry creek bed when we went so no trouble. but the other about a mile in required going over some downed trees so be forewarned if that is not something you like to do.
