Glacier View Trail

Glacier View Trail Professional Review and Guide

"The hike to the glorious views from this former lookout site offers a superb treat for children and families. Begin with a gradual ascent through meadows, flower fields, and rock gardens ornamented with constantly changing flower species and the songs of birds.

Follow a long path through trees before coming out into the open and the views. At the top, Mount Rainier is breathtaking. Glacier View indeed! Children will understand why Native Americans called it The Mountain That Was God."

I would not consider this a great trail for kids. The elevation combined with the elevation gain had my kids who hike with me a lot breathing hard quickly. The trail is also full of ruts, roots, and rocks. At one point on the trail, it is about 18 inches wide with a very steep incline on the downhill side. The edges are of the trail are also very loose, I myself had a foot go over the edge. The description also discusses the meadows and rock gardens, though the trail head is in a barren parking lot that enters right into the trees. The drive up to it is no recommended in a standard car as the put holes and ruts have easily be a foot deep. The view was incredible, even though the mountain was mostly obscured, but don't believe this to be "moderate for children."
