Awesome in every respect. The tarns above Paradise are wonderful and the experience of standing on Faraway Rock is exhilarating. We are going back this fall to hike it again because it's so stunning.

Bear alert: We saw a black bear mother with three cubs on this trail from about 100 yards. They were content with berries and paid little mind to us. On the trail back to Paradise, we had a VERY CLOSE encounter with a grizzly bear, very rare for this area. (We identified it by the shoulder hump, face, and ENORMOUS blonde claws.) None of these experiences were life threatening, but if you have a fear of bears, wear bells and make your presence known.
