Whistle Lake Trail

Whistle Lake Trail Professional Review and Guide

"This gorgeous former city watershed has become the Anacortes Community Forest Lands. Because it has been protected for decades, Whistle Lake and its network of forest trails have a quiet woodland beauty. Children will think that the lake, seen from several overlooks, is like a wilderness fjord, with its rocky cliffs, steep island, and forested shoreline.

The wonder is that because of the low elevation, this area can be enjoyed at any time of year. With life vests, younger children can safely play on the steep shore or swim in the deep lake. The day we were there a platoon of small, happy children were all swimming and splashing, wearing life vests."

Gorgeous hike along Whistle Lake. Easy to find, well maintained trail with moderate elevation which makes it a great hike for kids. If you want the easier route once you park, go through gated entrance and take trail to the right. (we have a mom's hike group so we are trekking with small children and babies so we opted for this route) Beautiful flora and fauna-gorgeous views of the lake. The loop was too long for us but we went about a mile or so in and turned around.

This is a lovely multi-purpose trail for hikers, mountain bikers, and trail runners alike. The trail hugs the lake for part, and then you spend most of the time in a beautiful forest. One note of caution - the parking lot is truly a high-prowl activity place. We had a large group in 3 cars - 2 of which were broken into. The police said we were cars 20 and 21 this month. Don't leave anything you want to keep in your car.
