Mount Erie–Sugarloaf Traverse, Whidbey Island Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"The City of Anacortes Parks and Recreation Department has nearly 2,800 acres of forest, wetlands, lakes, and meadows within its Community Forest Lands. Despite extensive logging that took place in the past, there’s still old- growth forest to see.
The land has been dedicated solely to recreation since 1991. What makes the Community Forest Lands so interesting is its mosaic of lakes, bogs and wetlands, low mountains, and rocky cliffs. Sugarloaf is a preferred hiking destination because it is inaccessible to cars. On the other hand, you can drive to the summit of Mount Erie, which has the best views. And that’s why this hike begins there."
