Deception Pass Trail

Deception Pass Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Rugged coastal headlands, placid coves, tidal pools teeming with crusty critters, towering ancient evergreens, and breathtaking views of the Olympic Mountains—Deception Pass State Park packs it in.

And with waterfront campsites and easy access from Pugetopolis, it’s easy to see why Deception Pass is Washington’s most popular state park (over three million annual visitors). This hike samples the park’s rugged northern headlands, delivering spectacular views of straits and bays and of Deception Pass itself, with its treacherous waters and majestic bridge."

Woke up early to hike this trail so I could catch the sunrise over the bridge. A great hike that is easy and offers wonderful views of the pass. Those that like to climb would probably enjoy the quick climb to lighthouse point. I noticed a couple ropes that were left for, what I assume, other climbers who might be enjoying the trail. This is an easy 1.5 to 2mile out and back trail that will be fun for all the family. Also for those that want to explore the unbeaten path there is a un-maintained trail on the west side of lighthouse point that overlooks bowman bay.

A great walk for the family. Lots of interest as the route heads into trees, along cliffs, down beaches and by rockpools. The route allows for people to bail out early if they wish but its worth preserving with the whole walk for the great views of Deception Pass. Note that there are some short steep climbs on the pike. Good parking and washroom.

Very nice, very easy trail with great views of Puget Sound and Deception Island. VERY CROWDED and not dog friendly. This is probably a better trail when hiked in the fall and winter months.
