Washington Scrambles - 2nd Edition (The Mountaineers Books)
Peggy Goldman
"Colchuck Peak is one of the stately granite crags on the rim of the Enchantment Lakes. It is rocky and steep everywhere except on the south. At its base, the Colchuck Glacier fills the cirque between Colchuck and Dragontail peaks. The glacial ice, now largely broken into two lobes, has shrunk considerably in modern times, but it is still extensive. From the summit of Colchuck, Mount Stuart dominates the scene, while the exquisite Enchantment Lakes and the Lost Plateau reside below. Its western summit is the highest of several points. Reservations are required for overnight use from June 15 through October 15; overnight permits include a Forest Service recreation pass for the duration of the trip. Avalanche danger in spring; crampons necessary for ice after June; helmets and snowshoes recommended in spring."
