Mount Ascutney Trail

Mount Ascutney Trail Professional Review and Guide

"It’s long, it’s tough, it’s complicated. But the hike to the Ascutney summit is worth it. In fact, with all the intriguing distractions, the kids will probably notice neither the length of this route nor the steady climb. Numerous stream crossings near miniature waterfalls, water slides, and pools highlight the initial mile, while a series of overlooks with terrific local views characterizes the next mile or so.

The frequent trail junctions allow kids to hone their map- and compass-reading skills. A trailside lean-to shelters overnight campers, and the summit lookout tower invites all to survey the landscape from a giant’s perspective. An added bonus: Unlike most mountain climbs, as you gain elevation, the slope eases. Your legs will appreciate that!"

Brutal hick for average views. Best view was from the observation tower. Small waterfall, about 1/2 mile up.
