Little Rock Pond Trail

Little Rock Pond Trail Professional Review and Guide

"You are never far from water on this section of the Appalachian/Long Trail (AT/LT). The trail travels alongside and over Little Black Brook before depositing you on the shores of picturesque Little Rock Pond. Here you can swim, fish, camp, or just take in the scenery.

If you want to camp, arrive early—the tent platforms and shelters are on a first-come, first-served basis. The trail has relatively little incline, so even younger children will enjoy this hike. Just be sure to have sturdy footwear as the trail is rocky in places, and remember to use caution on the stream crossings."

This is a great trail. While the first part of the trail is an easy grade, the rockiness of it can be a challenge for people who aren't sure on their feet. The views of Little Rock Pond our outstanding and when we went the colors were just beautiful. We started late so we didn't get a chance to go up the mountain, but we plan to revisit and hike that part, as the rest of the trail was so promising!

This was our first family backpacking trip-- two families (four adults, a 9 year old, two 6 year olds, a ten month old and two dogs!) We had a great time! The hike in wasn't too long for the little ones although the trail is in rough shape in some spots due to the high rainfall this summer. Even though we headed out early Saturday morning, all of the tent platforms were already taken. (A first this summer, the caretaker told us.) We stayed in the nearby Lula Tye shelter. Swimming was great! The kids loved finding all sorts of water critters, salamanders, crawfish, minnows galore. We can't wait to go back!
