Ledges Overlook Trail

Ledges Overlook Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This is a short recreational trail to an outcrop high above Townshend Lake.

Less than 2 miles from the entrance to Townshend State Park, the recreational facilities at Townshend Lake add a dash of luxury to hiker options. Maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the sandy beach, pavilion shelters, and extensive picnic grounds rimming the western shore indulge the passive pleasures of a steamy summer day. For a little exercise before firing up charcoal in the grill, the Ledges Overlook Hiking Trail supplies an aerobic workout by means of a brisk climb to a nearby outcrop with local views not available on Bald Mountain."

"Watch for bald eagles and osprey soaring over Townshend Lake, and walk through a pretty woodland savanna high above the valley."
