"Tall hemlocks and bubbly brooks characterize this leisurely loop walk to a bench with a quintessential Vermont view."

"The choices of where to ski and snowshoe in Stowe seem endless. For a fee, use the network of interconnected trails among the four touring centers in the valley. If flat is the word of the day, use the Stowe Recreation Path and create a day-long or hour-long trek.

Skiers and snowshoers wanting a leisurely romp through the forest should head to the trails of Wiessner Woods. Nothing is difficult in the woods, up above the valley. There’s a bench for resting. Plentiful and colorful trail markers make navigation easy. This is where the locals ski with their dogs. It’s also where tourists come bearing cameras. Add to that the Catamount Trail, and it’s also a place where skiers traversing the state might be passing through. Surface quality: Ungroomed."

If there is a Santa Claus, this must be the way to his house. Easy, relatively flat terrain, through absolutely beautiful snow covered evergreens. We snowshoed via the Hardwood Ridge Trail to Catamount XC Loop and even came back a second time to take more pictures. I thought I was in Austria! It was snowing which made it even more magical. Dogs are welcome here! Tips: we went early, 10am, and beat the crowd. I highly suggest printing out the trail map from the Stowe Land Trust website, which lays out Wiessner Woods very clearly.
