Smuggler's Notch, Stowe, & Bolton Valley, VT Professional Review and Guide
"Smugglers’ Notch ski terrain covers not one but three mountains: Morse at 2,250 feet, Sterling at 3,010 feet, and Madonna at 3,640 feet. The trails cover the whole spectrum of ability levels, from double black diamonds (even one triple black diamond) to beginners’ slopes, with more than half rated as intermediate. The Nordic Center offers 23 kilometers of groomed and tracked trails. The village sits at the base of Morse, providing a multitude of services in a compact area—stores, lodging, restaurants, a fitness center, an ice rink, a tubing and sledding hill, sleigh rides, indoor and outdoor tennis, pools, a large day-care center, as well as crafts, classes, and parties for kids of all ages.
Now under new ownership, the resort’s slope-side lodging has been renovated, and the mountain has fifty-one trails on 168 acres of skiable terrain, with 60 percent of it covered by snowmaking. Summer visitors can enjoy walking on the private nature preserve (where they may see a moose), hiking to the lookout, or just taking some quiet time to appreciate the view."
