Mount Mansfield

Mount Mansfield Professional Review and Guide

"This ride's general location is Nebraska Valley, 4 miles northwest of Stowe. Scenery includes deeply wooded trails, views of Mount Mansfield, and a cruise on the scenic Mountain Road. The first half of this ride takes you through the Trapp Family lodge Cross-Country Ski Center on two Class 4 roads: Old County Road and Haul Road.

The Haul Road takes you to the Stowe Mountain Resort Cross-Country Center ski trails at Mount Mansfield, making the ride a lengthy tour of Stowe's foremost Nordic ski areas. The trails are favorites of local bikers for several sections of demanding single-track, both uphill and downhill. Most of the riding is done in dense woods; a better part of the second loop is in the Mount Mansfield State Forest on the Ranch Camp and Burt Trails."

More Mount Mansfield Professional Reviews and Guides

"Mount Mansfield’s long alpine spine resembles a human face. He looks upward; the top of his head points south. His features are named promontories—the Forehead, the Nose, the Adam’s Apple—but the Chin juts highest and at 4,393 feet is the tallest point in Vermont.

The Long Trail walks across this craggy visage, providing expansive views of the landscape. A series of wild trails run parallel to the ridgeline, offering thrilling explorations through the weathered furrows of Mansfield’s face."
