The Green Mountain State’s highest peak boasts Vermont’s longest and most scenic high- elevation ridge. For nearly 2 miles the Long Trail meanders above tree line with 360-degree views throughout. The rocky footpath scales a number of interesting summits, which from a distance— and with imagination—resemble parts of a human head. From The Chin, the mountain’s high point, the expansive scenery attracts many hikers, as well as visitors from the auto road and gondola. A great hike whenever you choose it (assuming the weather cooperates), hike Mansfield early morning, midweek, or off-season to avoid crowds.
