Monroe Skyline-Lincoln Gap to Appalachian Gap Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This is a one-way backpack along a celebrated section of a scenic Green Mountain ridge. Although the LT stretches 265 miles from Massachusetts to the Canadian border, its 30-mile segment from Lincoln Gap to the Winooski River, known as the Monroe Skyline, captures a generous portion of Vermont’s finest alpine sights. This overnight trek along a narrow section of the Green Mountain ridge from Lincoln Gap to Appalachian Gap features a shortened version of the Skyline route—a popular traverse widely regarded as a highlight of the famous hike.

Cooperation is needed to spot a car at the end of this paradoxical journey that rambles over six summits yet visits only two mountains, Lincoln (with five peaks) and General Stark. Spanning arctic heights adorned with alpine plants, this north-bound traverse clearly reminds hikers of the need for conservation. It also proves that natural environs can be scenic though not pristine."
