Northeast Kingdom Challenge

Northeast Kingdom Challenge Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A glance at the map tells it all: This ride is a loop around a large tract of Vermont wilderness. There aren’t any towns or paved roads inside the loop — just logging roads, hunting camps, lakes, snowmobile trails, and abundant wildlife. Be sure to take snacks, water, and tools for minor repairs, as there are stretches when you won’t see anything but forest. Serious cyclists won’t have trouble doing it in a day. Those anticipating a more leisurely pace should plan to stop overnight in Canaan.

Cyclists have lively discussions about the best direction for riding this loop. As written here, it’s done counterclockwise—the way my family likes to do it. Others prefer clockwise. The advantage of the clockwise direction has to do with the northern part of the circle, between Norton and Canaan. Done as written here, there’s a steep climb as you head west out of Canaan, then a more gradual descent into Norton."
