Middlebury Loop Scenic Drive

Middlebury Loop Scenic Drive Professional Review and Guide

"An 81-mile loop drive through Middlebury and Brandon gaps in the Green Mountains and across open farmland in the Champlain Valley. The 81-mile Middlebury Loop Drive, beginning in the college town of Middlebury, crosses the Green Mountains via Middlebury and Brandon Gaps and runs across rolling farmland on the eastern side of the Champlain Valley. This scenic drive incorporates two of Vermont’s geographic regions— the state’s rugged spine formed by the Green Mountains, and the Champlain lowland, the broad basin holding Lake Champlain which separates the Green Mountains from New York’s Adirondacks. The drive’s diverse scenery samples farmland and orchards, the Lake Champlain waterfront, superb mountain views, and a host of picturesque country villages and towns.

Special attractions: Middlebury College Center for the Arts, Sheldon Museum, Vermont Folklife Center, Middlebury College Snow Bowl, Robert Frost Wayside Area and Trail, Middlebury Gap, Texas Falls Recreation Area, Green Mountain National Forest, Long Trail, Chittenden Brook Recreation Area, Brandon Brook Recreation Area, Brandon Gap, Vermont Ski Museum, Lake Champlain, apple picking, bicycle touring, fishing, hiking, and downhill and cross-country skiing."

Really picturesque drive, with many different types of landscapes. It was truly beautiful and calm in the summer, but I would imagine that in the fall it would truly breathe taking. If you are in the area this drive is worthwhile to do.
