Wytheville & Wythe County, VA Professional Review and Guide
"Wytheville actually began as the incorporated town of Evansham in 1792, named in honor of Jesse Evans, a prominent citizen. Just 47 years later, the town trustees thought better of it, and the name of the county seat was changed to Wytheville. The town became a popular stopping point for settlers heading west, and later, its mineral spas and mountain air brought vacationers from the heat of the South. Wytheville’s lead mines made it an important Civil War target for Union forces operating in southwestern Virginia, and there were four major skirmishes here.
Today, Wytheville is a popular outdoor vacation destination nestled between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains. This eTrail provides detailed information on sights, events, entertainment, shopping, dining, accommodations, and transportation in this area of Virginia."
