"Leesylvania State Park's trails are short, easy to hike, and fun. You'll find a virtual textbook worth of American history along the Lee's Woods Historic Trail."

"In southeaster Prince William County, Leesylvania State Park is a place where hikers can commune with nature, admire the Potomac River, and visit sites associated with Virginia’s Lee family. Leesylvania State Park is named for owner Harry Lighthorse Lee, who was a Revolutionary War hero. He was the father of Confederate general Robert E. Lee. The 542-acre park is a popular warm-season destination for boaters and beach-goers. The riverfront gets crowded, and the boat engines roar. The shoreline has begun eroding, so the State of Virginia is building jetties parallel to the shoreline and covering them with aquatic plants. This hike, with only about 500 feet of elevation change, includes two short trails and other paths."

"This hike travels hills above the tidal Potomac River. Leave the scenic shore—ideal for a picnic—to climb to Freestone Point and a Civil War battery featuring a stellar view of the river and Maryland beyond. From there, visit the site of Fairfax, a home from the early 1800s. More woodland winding leads up to the historic Lee homesite, Leesylvania, dating back to before the United States was a country. Pass the Lee home garden and cemetery amid more hilly mature forest, then return to the riverside picnic area."
