Wintergreen Ski Resort Professional Review and Guide
"Considering Virginia’s limited scope of alpine skiing, Wintergreen is indisputably the state’s most varied ski resort. Situated within 11,000 acres of pristine woodlands and the expansive George Washington National Forest, the luxurious four-seasons resort offers a good mix of terrain for first-time to advanced skiers. Wintergreen’s high-country land, formerly known as the “Big Survey,” was purchased in 1952 by North Carolina’s William Mattox. Twenty years later, Wintergreen Resort would be developed by Cabot, Cabot & Forbes— the same company involved in the creation of Hilton Head’s Sea Pines Resort—and celebrated its first ski season in 1975.
Parking can also be issue, made worse by a long walk from lot to lodge. Another word to the wise: a slow rental system can eat away at your time on the slopes, so consider off-mountain shops if renting equipment. This eTrail contains a thorough description of the resort including driving directions, mountain statistics, trail profiles, extensive lodging & dining information, travel tips, and much more."
