First Landing State Park

First Landing State Park Professional Review and Guide

"A great ride for the family or the casual cyclist seeking an easy, relatively flat ride through a semitropical forest, complete with Spanish moss, bald cypress, lagoons osprey, and the chicken turtle. Cyclists will pedal along the Cape Henry Trail, the park's only trail open to bikes.

Be prepared for crowds, however, especially in the warm weather, as the park, named for the English settlers who firs landed here in 1607 before reaching Jamestown, attracts over one million visitors a year.

Trail Surface: Hard-packed dirt and sand."

Great ride, cold out today but at least the mud was frozen. If you start at the main parking area its a nice 10 mile ride. The last two are very wet due to rain and flooding. Feet froze solid on the way back. Bring extra socks.
This trail is very fun and has great scenery particularly due to its location. You can start in the park either at 64th st or Shore Dr side picking up the Cape Henry trail. Entering via 64th, you can go left and begin 2.5 miles to the narrows, or enter the CH trail to the right and head 3.5 miles to Shore Dr. If you start at 64th, you can go to the narrows, turn around, take the CH all the way to Shore Dr and turn around and come back for a 12 mile ride. Pretty good early morning when its not as busy. Lots of hikers, runners and families during the summer.
I am a beginner to riding. The trail was fun, mostly wide and flat. A good place to bring your kids to ride. The length made it a decent workout.
