First Landing State Park

First Landing State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The ultimate surf-and-turf park, First Landing State Park is great for a tan—and far less crowded than the Atlantic beaches a few miles south. The “surf ” is the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, where it flows into the Atlantic Ocean; the “turf ” is a landward trail network through an ecosystem that mixes southern plants with northern, temperate species.

Spend an afternoon here among bald cypress swamps decked with Spanish moss, towering loblolly pines, and salt marsh. High, forested dunes offer great views of the water. Boardwalks take you safely through blackwater swamps, but at high tide be prepared to get your feet wet and muddy on more remote trails."

Great ride, cold out today but at least the mud was frozen. If you start at the main parking area its a nice 10 mile ride. The last two are very wet due to rain and flooding. Feet froze solid on the way back. Bring extra socks.

Flat double track from Shore Dr (N end) but gets interesting at the south end near the shore. Some hills and turns. The interesting looking trails are off limits to bikes. Good beginner route.

This trail is very fun and has great scenery particularly due to its location. You can start in the park either at 64th st or Shore Dr side picking up the Cape Henry trail. Entering via 64th, you can go left and begin 2.5 miles to the narrows, or enter the CH trail to the right and head 3.5 miles to Shore Dr. If you start at 64th, you can go to the narrows, turn around, take the CH all the way to Shore Dr and turn around and come back for a 12 mile ride. Pretty good early morning when its not as busy. Lots of hikers, runners and families during the summer.

I hiked the reccomended trails plus an extra today. I really enjoyed myself. The hike was easy for the most part with two or three challanging hills. The views are great and shade is plentiful. Don forget your bug spay!!!!

Great trail if you have been out of mt. biking for a while or are a beginner. Lots of great views and scenery, especially at the end when you get to the channel...rest a bit and watch the boats come in and out.

I am a beginner to riding. The trail was fun, mostly wide and flat. A good place to bring your kids to ride. The length made it a decent workout.

If you live in virginia beach this is a great place to disappear for a few. Make sure you are aware of the tides when hiking on the osprey trail.
