First Landing and First Lighthouse, Virginia Beach

First Landing and First Lighthouse, Virginia Beach Professional Review and Guide

"Named for a son of King James of England, Cape Henry has become known as the site of the “first landing” of English settlers in the New World. Those settlers went on to found the first permanent English settlement in the New World at Jamestown, Virginia.

After your walk, you can visit the public beach by crossing the parking lot near the entrance gate. This undeveloped stretch of beach is a perfect place to spend an afternoon with a picnic or a good book.

Special attractions: Two lighthouses, First Landing Cross, ocean and bay views."

Definitely worth it. The view from the Cape Henry Lighthouse is amazing and you are guaranteed to have sore quads the next day. We were unable to do the whole walk due to a sick child but make sure you get down to the beach...great place to picnic. Just a few updates to the information posted in the guide. This is an active military base so when you go into gate one as suggested, you will be stopped and your car searched but they are very nice. Additionally, it's $4 per adult and $2 per child to go up in the lighthouse, not $1.
