Middlesex County, VA Professional Review and Guide

"The Rappahannock and Piankatank Rivers form rural Middlesex County, with the tip extending into the Chesapeake Bay. This location made it a favorite of marauding pirates, and today among boaters, with more than 20 marinas in the county. The population centers include the county seat of Saluda, plus Deltaville and Urbanna. Urbanna was one of the nation’s first planned communities, laid out in 1681 and designated by the Colonial government as one of 20 ports through which all tobacco and imported goods would pass.

Even though it was pillaged during the Revolution and attacked during the War of 1812 and the Civil War, there are many historic buildings left to see. Today fishermen still unload their catch as they have for centuries in the protected harbor which has become popular with recreational craft. Visitors can browse the antique shops and tour the historic sites, then dine with a water view and stay in a quaint old inn. This eTrail provides detailed information on sights, events, entertainment, shopping, dining, accommodations, and transportation in this area of Virginia."
