Rockwood Park

Rockwood Park Professional Review and Guide

"The paved balloon at Rockwood Park is popular with Southsiders out for a walk or jog, but the park’s web of dirt paths—some of which are maintained and mapped—is surprisingly extensive. Trails trace the park’s border with Gregory’s Pond and crisscross its woodland interior. There’s even a boardwalk for wetlandwildlife viewing.

By parking in and leaving from the area for Shelter 4, you can hike the park’s paved trails as a balloon (as mapped here). You may, however, prefer parking in the nature-center lot if you’re primarily interested in the park’s web of dirt trails or, naturally, if you wish to visit the center."

The biking trails in the woods are great for beginners. Fishing is not so good in the three ponds. Don't bother fishing the two upper ponds. The third pond has always been the most abundant with panfish and bass. I've been told there were some catfish as well.
