Surry Ramble

Surry Ramble Professional Review and Guide

"The Surry Ramble is an easy ride through the quiet and rural landscape of Virginia’s Southside. Take the free ferry (a destination in itself) across the James River to a land vastly different from Williamsburg and the Lower Peninsula. Cycle past miles of fields bursting with corn, soybeans, cotton, and peanuts.

Stop at Chippokes Plantation State Park and Farm and Forestry Museum, where you can tour the manor houses and a farm that has been continuously worked for more than 370 years. Detour to Bacon’s Castle, built in 1665 and documented as the oldest brick house in America. At the end of the ramble, make the obligatory stop at the Surrey House and enjoy southern cooking at its best. Terrain: Almost entirely flat with just a few gentle rollers."
