Burke Lake Loop

Burke Lake Loop Professional Review and Guide

"This ride isn't designated for thrill seekers and singletrack lovers. Instead, it reveals the lighter side of off-road bicycle riding, leading cyclists on a pleasant off-road trip past flower gardens and lakeside vistas. The route is mostly flat and smooth, traveling along well maintained dirt paths around Burke Lake or meandering along South Run on a paved bicycle path.

If you get eager to take on some rough stuff, simply cut out from the South Run bicycle path near South Run District Park and take on the rugged, hilly singletrack beneath the power lines. There's plenty for off-road cyclists to do along this easy route to and from Burke Lake, so bring the family and enjoy the ride."

My son and I started from the South Run Park entrance which is poorly marked. You can do the loop only by entering Burke Lake Park from Route 123. The loop path is level and smooth. The Park facilities on the south side of the lake make for a nice recreational stop if you are riding with a teen or younger. The north side of the lake has wood exercise station stops which is unique in my trail travels. These stops are a must for joggers, but also relevant to bikers seeking to excercise and tone all parts of your body. In my opinion, this trail would be best to ride when there is less than full foliage (autumn, winter, early spring) since the trees obstruct a view of the lake in many instances. RZ
