Staunton River State Park

Staunton River State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The park stretches across more than 2,400 acres and still has structures built through the CCC project in the 1930s. There is an Olympic-size pool with a 70-foot waterslide and a log slide, making it a hit with bigger kids, as well as a wading pool/water playground just for smaller kids.

Choose from six different trails to explore along the rivers and the lake, sheltered by trees, with one multiuse trail for bikers, hikers, and horseback riders. Fish in the lake or the rivers for perch, bluegills, bass, and crappie."

This is a beautiful park with a nice campground for both RVs and tents. It also has cabins, a pool, a tennis court, two rivers, two boat launches, two picnic areas, horseback and hiking trails. Our kids love the dark sky area with telescopes at visitor center. The large swimming pool and slide is great family fun, and passes for the pool are included if you are camping at the park. Nice and helpful staff, clean facilities. The converging rivers (Dan River and Staunton River) on both sides of the park provide plenty of opportunities for fishing, and there are a couple of good boat launch locations. There is a great field for star watching and a large frisbee golf course. The hiking trails lead along the water and are beautiful and easy to follow. We camped here for 3 nights. It's a really great, fun place to take the family. It is one of our homes away from home!
