Pocahontas State Park

Pocahontas State Park Professional Review and Guide

"The premier hiking trail at Pocahontas State Park encircles Beaver Lake. Misleadingly named, the lake was actually the work of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), and this route descends from the park’s CCC Museum to pass the Depression-era stone spillway before circling the lake.

Forest Exploration Trial, the park’s newest, crosses Swift Creek just where it begins to widen north of Swift Creek Lake. Though not connected (except by pavement) the two loops together highlight the park’s cultural and ecological heritage."

Nice farm - sheep, horses, cows, etc. It's old and well maintained. Nice tour of the farm's house. The trails in the woods were simple for walking with our jogging carriage, but it wasn't much of a hike. The trails are small and poorly marked, so you keep going around in little circles. Took us 45 minutes to wander the entire area. Friendly farm staff. Great for kids, lots of info, tours, demonstrations, etc. In March, there weren't too many bugs yet.
