Dorey Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Just south of Richmond International Airport, Dorey Park is a model county park. The well-maintained facilities cater to a range of interests, from T-ball to horseback riding.

By combining a stroll around the pond, a brief jaunt into the woods, and a loop of the exercise trail, it’s easy to string together a couple of miles on wide gravel paths. Elongate your hike by venturing onto the singletrack in the southern reaches of the park, near the discgolf course."

"This walk travels along a park lake then joins gravel trails through woods and finally a path named the “Exercise Trail” to make a loop that is worth a visit. The park as a whole is well kept and maintained, so consider incorporating a picnic or even a little fishing into your adventure. This 400-acre park is located on the site of the Dorey Farm. The facilities have expanded and changed over the park’s history, since it was established in 1984. Most visitors come to play or watch the soccer, softball, or baseball on the many fields here. You can play tennis or disc golf, even fish. Despite all the other attractions, many a walker and hiker find their way onto the paths here, especially locals on daily exercise regimens."

Not a bad starter trail for kids. My 5 year old had a good time walking with me. Distance was perfect for him to start out with very small elevation change.

As posted this mtn bike trail is for beginners and fairly short, 2miles. Beware of trucks, one almost ran me over delivering kayaks to summer camp kids. Fairly flat, gravel, dirt and some paved sections. Several off shots for single track which is much more difficult. A couple of off shots which are still beginner level on the southside where you can ride on exposed boulders. The single track trail on the east end is also beginner level and you can ride to the water so beware if it is raining as this river easily floods.
