Bald Knob and Bear Cliffs

Bald Knob and Bear Cliffs Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Since the 1800s, the lake and surrounding highlands have beckoned visitors and recreationists, formerly to escape hot summers, but nowadays to enjoy the nature of the mountains
year-round, including winter sports.

This hike takes place at majestic Mountain Lake, near a historic lodge on protected lands. First, make the short but steep climb to Bald Knob, a rocky promontory with outstanding views. Next, head out on Salt Pond Mountain in high-country splendor to Bear Cliffs Overlook, which boasts a southerly panorama. Finally, return to the trailhead, coming near Mountain Lake."

One of my very favorite area trails. On the top of a ridge, so wonderful stunted trees, rocks, and a flat trail once you are off the service road. Trees are not cut anymore, so view is extremely limited in summer, but such a special trail and the rocky outcrops of the cliffs are fun to explore.
