"From this summit, you’ll enjoy one-of-a-kind views of Fort Valley and the north and central districts of Shenandoah National Park. The distinctively pyramidal shape of Kennedy Peak dominates the valley of the South Fork of the Shenandoah River. With the exception of the last few hundred yards beneath the summit, you’ll be walking on orange-blazed Massanutten Trail for the entirety of this hike. Once you start hiking, you’ll enjoy about 1.5 miles of gentle walking as Massanutten Trail heads northeast along the back of the ridgeline. The path becomes narrower and rockier, then switchbacks to the left across the face of the mountain at 1.8 miles, gradually working its way around to the northeastern side of the peak. Look for an unblazed spur trail on the left at 2.3 miles that leads to westward views of Fort Valley. From its perch atop Kennedy Peak, the first CCC observation tower offers commanding views of the Shenandoah and Fort Valley." Read more
