Orange Ramble

Orange Ramble Professional Review and Guide

"The Orange Ramble takes the cyclist on a scenic, gentle loop through historic Orange County. Starting in the county seat and town of Orange, the ramble first drops down to the village of Rapidan, nestled on both sides of the Rapidan River. This small village changed hands fifteen times during the Civil War. Continue through quiet countryside and past peaceful farmlands while gently rolling down to Lake Orange.

Pack a picnic lunch and take a well-deserved break alongside this scenic 124-acre lake. After finishing this ramble, make the short drive to Montpelier and experience the world of James Madison, our fourth president and the father of the Constitution, and his effervescent wife, Dolley, who inspired the title First Lady. Terrain: Gently rolling. Some long, flat stretches. Although there are no major climbs, cumulative climbing efforts will challenge beginners."

The Ramble was a good mix of hills and flat, not very difficult but still challenging at times. Most of the roads had coverage from the sun, and the traffic was really minimal. I definitely recommend stopping at Lake Orange - it was beautiful!
