Massanutten Campout Professional Review and Guide
"This ride's general location is New Market Gap, 5 miles east of New Market. Scenery includes roadside trout streams, dense woods, and mountaintop views from the crest of Massanutten. This is a great introduction to mountain bike camping as this route is set up as a three day point-to-point with overnight camping. The first leg of this 35-mile point-to-point journey is a scant 9.5 miles from the Massanutten Visitor Center to the Camp Roosevelt Recreation Area on a well-maintained, sometimes gated national forest road.
Set up camp then do some riding on the Duncan Hollow Trail, which has some great single-track. From there you'll continue northward for 17 miles past Edinburg Gap, across the top of Powell Mountain, and on to Woodstock Gap, where you'll spend the night at the Little Fort Recreation Area the second day. The third and final day of riding will lead you for 8 miles through Little Fort Valley and on to the Elizabeth Furnace Recreation Area. You can leave your gear there and ride single-track to Signal Knob, or drop a fishing line into Passage Creek."
