Westmoreland State Park

Westmoreland State Park Professional Review and Guide

"Westmoreland State Park, located on Virginia’s rural Northern Neck peninsula, is best known for its views of the Potomac from the Horsehead Cliffs.

Additionally, the park is positioned between the birthplaces of both George Washington and Robert E. Lee, its campgrounds providing history buffs with an economical alternative to hotels."

My husband and I loved this park! The trails were great, clearly marked, wide for people and animals. I sites were huge, the kids seem to stay more toward the back of the campground (we didnt have kids). The ticks were bad, but its normal for this time of the year. People and staff were friendly. I haven't stayed in the park when school is out, but I heard they bus kids in from the YMCA and other places for the pool, which makes it hard on the people who are in the campground to swim. I give this camp ground 4 stars, not 5 due to the pool being open to public.

The Old Mill Trail is well marked and is approx. 5 miles total in length from the park entrance. Three mountain bike trails of three levels are about 10 miles long each. They are located off the north of the Old Mill Trail. You can also park at the Nature Center and access the mountain bike trail from there which are 1/4 mile from the Nature Center. Other trails are under construction.

This trail was ok. The map around the park i found to be confusing so we never found the single track which i hear is way fun. Its good for beginners who have never been mountain biking before and for families.
