Hazel Country Loop

Hazel Country Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This big loop—great for backpacking—courses through an interconnected trail network cobbled together from a web of pre-park roads where settlers once lived in highland isolation. You’ll find natural highlights such as overlooks and waterfalls, as well as settler history, from chimneys to rock walls to rusted-out washtubs.

After visiting Hazel Falls and Cave, you’ll enjoy vistas from White Rocks before returning to the Hazel River. A steep climb up Sams Ridge returns you to the upland flats of Hazel Mountain, where the hiking is easy. The catchily named Hot Short Mountain Trail drops you by the Hughes River with its pools and rapids, and then Hannah Run Trail returns you to the highlands."
