Dark Hollow Falls

Dark Hollow Falls Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The most popular waterfall hike in Shenandoah National Park isn't terribly long, but it is steep and can be a surprising lung buster.

You'll never have this hike, or the falls, to yourself, but it's still worth putting on your Shenandoah National Park to-do list, especially if you're staying in the Big Meadows area. The trail starts at the north end of the large parking lot with a bridge over Hogcamp Branch. Follow it downhill on the wide hard-packed dirt and gravel path."

"This is a short out-and-back hike to one of the park’s most popular and easily accessible waterfalls. The trail descends from the parking lot and follows Hogcamp Branch. At 0.6 mile there is an overlook of 70-foot Dark Hollow Falls. Note: The rails along the trail should not require a statement of intent but apparently do; invariably, some visitors fail to realize that the fences are intended not only to prevent further erosion but also to save life and limb. This is one place with a history of injury. Please remain on the trail! Rocks can be wet and very slippery." Read more
