Bear Church Rock via Staunton River Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Bear Church Rock is one of the all-time top names in Appalachia. The origin is lost to time, but from the granite outcrop it doesn’t take much imagination to visualize a pulpit overlooking the Staunton River Valley. The pulpit lies below the main granite crag where your views open. Conjuring up a bear preaching a sermon may prove more difficult, but some claim the panorama to be a near-religious experience.

Your hike to the crag is rewarding too. The Staunton River tumbles in pools and cascades impressive for the limited stream volume. Be apprised that the nearly 2,000-foot elevation change is challenging."
