The Homestead Ski Area

The Homestead Ski Area Professional Review and Guide

"In 1959, former Austrian national team skier Sepp Kober unleashed the South’s first ski resort here at The Homestead. Accessible via Interstates 81 and 64 in southwestern Virginia, the ski area today is a small slice of this historic resort better known for its posh accommodations and soothing European-style spas. The ski area entertains a main clientele of family skiers on its small trail network.

The resort offers over 2,300 acres of year-round recreation from valley to summit, where its alpine ski resort sits 3,200 feet atop a small mountain nestled in the Allegheny Mountain range. Terrain is limited, but skiers who want to get their money’s worth of runs have the trails nearly always free of large crowds. A shuttle bus conveniently transports guests from the hotel directly to the base lodge. Lift tickets are generously affordable and controlled by the resort to ease traffic flow. The resort holds 9 slopes and trails throughout its 45 acres. Please see the current Homestead Ski Map posted below under "Trail Photos.""
