Thunder Hill to Jennings Creek

Thunder Hill to Jennings Creek Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"After beginning with an Olympian view of the Great Valley of Virginia, this hike follows a superb relocation by volunteers of the Natural Bridge Appalachian Trail Club and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s Konnarock Crew that brought the Trail back to its original 1930s location. Rising on 110 rock steps, the Trail winds in and around several interesting rock formations, including The Guillotine, a large boulder that hangs over the Trail, trapped in a cleft of another rock.

It then goes over the summit of Apple Orchard Mountain, which has another nice view and a large Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic radar dome antenna. The antenna is all that remains of the Bedford Air Force Base, which operated on the summit from 1954 to 1974."
