Mill Creek and Humpback Mountain

Mill Creek and Humpback Mountain Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This initial section of the Appalachian Trail to parallel the Blue Ridge Parkway is quite enjoyable as it contours around the mountainsides and past several small water runs. The walking is made even more pleasurable by the fact that the route uses old roadways that were once important transportation links for the inhabitants of the central Blue Ridge Mountains. When not following these roadbeds, you will be on superbly constructed pathways built by volunteers of the Old Dominion Appalachian Trail Club and ATC’s Konnarock Crew.

In addition, the isolation in Mill Creek Valley allows you to forget you are so close to the parkway. Rising from the creek, the A.T. passes the short side trail to Humpback Rocks— with its superb vista—and goes over the summit of Humpback Mountain for views to the east and west."
