A fun family hike leads to the northeast summit of Loft Mountain; views are offered at several places. This is a very enjoyable hike and one that is suitable for a fun family outing. From the Loft Mountain Wayside parking lot, walk north on Skyline Drive for about 150 yards to a dirt road on the right.Along the way you pass the trailhead for the Patterson Ridge Trail (a one-way trail) on the left. Turn onto the dirt road, walk about 60 yards, and go right again on the dirt road. Soon you’ll come to the Ivy Creek PATC maintenance building and Ivy Creek Spring. The Appalachian Trail junction is about 200 yards ahead. Upon reaching the AT, turn right and ascend through the hardwood forest.
