North Fork Mayo River: Henry CR 629 Bridge to Anglin Mill Road (CR 1358) Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The North Fork of the Mayo flows through heavily wooded hills after leaving the pasture lands at the beginning of the section. It has more gradient than the upper reaches of the South Fork, thus offering a more interesting trip. Once it joins the South Fork, it forms the Mayo and drops over a series of ledges that give the effect of a natural staircase.

The latter part of the trip features some of the best whitewater available to paddlers in the northern Piedmont and eastern North Carolina. It makes for an excellent training course. You can take out above the last ledges at the CR 1358 bridge, run on down through the good stuff, and take your chances at the old takeout or continue on down to the NC 770 bridge."

A nice little whitewater trip - but make sure to check the CFS before you go. Was shallow but a nice trip and a must go when the water is up!
