Riverbend Park and the Potomac Heritage Trail Professional Review and Guide
"Enjoy woodland, pond, and river vistas and a family-friendly experience in this grand Potomac River setting in Fairfax County. Only about 20 miles from the White House, Riverbend Park and its neighbor, Great Falls Park, are probably some of the metro area’s finest close-in natural attractions. Fairfax County’s 409-acre Riverbend Park is a popular place to kayak, with wooded uplands, hiking trails, and a pretty floodplain shoreline.
This hike is a double-loop walk that accesses part of the Potomac Heritage Trail (PHT), along the Potomac River, as well as a few moderate climbs through dense forests. You’ll experience openings in the path with views of the fast-moving Potomac River, but keep your distance; do not tr y to wade or swim here. The route has limited blazes and signposts, so follow the directions closely—and avoid the poison ivy."
